I have always wanted to live on Mackinaw Island. I am having trouble finding out where there are apartments, houses or condos year around to rent. I also am trying to find out about the school system on the island. I work from home by internet and wonder if in the winter there are problems with that if any. If anyone can help answer my questions I would appreciate it. Also, I am a medical transcriptionst and wonder if there are hospital or clinic jobs there. Thanks so much.

Our first trip to Mackinac Island was in the summer of 1979 while they were filming Somewhere in Time (Christoper Reeve and Jane Seymour). It was so special to watch as they filmed, but it was just a short day trip for us on our way to the U.P. We vowed to come back and we did. We've spent many an early May on the island when it's quiet and have stayed in a variety of places downtown. It's a charming place to get away to when life overtakes every part of you. Grab and bike and circle the island, stopping along the way just to watch the ships go by. Ice cream eaten on the boardwalk at sunset is the ultimate treat. We have such warm wonderful memories.

Mackinac is absolutely beautiful, I surprised my girlfriend with a 4 day trip here and she is so excited! It is an easy, fun, inexpensive travel destination! I have been going since I was 12 years old and I don't think I will EVER lose interest!

My wife and I have made it an annual trip to escape to Mackinac Island. It is like being in another world. If you have been you know what I am talking about. If you have not, you must go and stay a couple of nights. My favorite thing is to wake up in the morning, get a cup of coffee and listen to the sound of the horses "clip clop" down the road. We love Mackinac Island!

Would love to live there 1 year just to taste the 4 seasons in such a heavenly place. You must spend the night, after all the FUDGIES (also known as tourists) have left for the night Its so relaxing ,to stroll the Island.

I absolutely love Mackinac!
I've been going there since I was 6 years old.
We've been immensely blessed with such a great vacation spot. God's world certainly has some beautiful places, and I think Mackinac is way up there on the list!
The peace and quiet is so relaxing... the lack of cars is so refreshing!!!
We've stayed at the Windermere Hotel every time & really enjoyed it's beautiful homey rooms.
A much recommended getaway~ L. M.

MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN COMING TO THE ISLAND FOR OVER 20 YRS. WE ALWAYS COME THE WEEKEND BEFORE MEMORIAL WEEKEND. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL TIME TO BE ON THE ISLAND!!! EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK THE TULIPS ARE IN BLOOM. ANOTHER GREAT ISLAND EXPERIENCE IS TO COME IN THE "WINTER"!!! WE'VE BEEN COMING TO THE ISLAND IN THE WINTER FOR 3 YEARS NOW. WE ALREADY HAVE OUR RESERVATION FOR NEXT YEAR (JANUARY -2008) AT THE PONTIAC LODGE. THE ISLAND IS AN ABSOULUTLY BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO BE IN THE WINTER. A REALLY GOOD MAGAZINE TO READ IS "MACKINAC LIVING". IT'S FULL OF INFO ON THE ISLAND. IT COMES OUT ONCE A YEAR. LOVE THE ARTICLES ON THE ISLAND HOMES AND THE INFO ON THE PLACES TO HAVE A GREAT MEAL.

My husband and I have been coming to the Island for some time now. My favorite memory is our first visit. We rented a pop up trailer and stayed at a campground across from the Island. We arrived in the afternoon and were set up as the sun was setting. Seeing the Grand Hotel all lit up from the campground was so exciting! I could not wait to get on the Island the next day. Everyone is was so nice and our family had such a wonderful time! That trip was in August and now that the boys are all grown up, my husband and I like to go the week before the Lilac Festival. The whole Island smells of Lilacs. I get so excited that I start looking on the website at anything I can get my hands on. As a matter of fact, we will be visting next weekend! I can't wait to get back to what I call "my second home"!
