I saw the movie "Somewhere in Time" years ago when it first came out. I was watching late night TV and saw it was going to be on. After watching it I waited to see where the movie was filmed. I just had to go see the Grand Hotel. My husband first took me 4 years ago, then again last year and we are going again in Sept. If it were not for my children and grandchildren I would move there in an instant. There is no way I can describe how I felt the moment I got off the ferry. It was truly like going back in time. The people are so friendly, the fudge is out of this world, and the Island is beautiful beyond words. The Hotel is undescribable .. You have to see it for yourself. Although I did not stay there, they treated me very kindly and were so friendly. If you ever get a chance to go to Mackinac Island the Hotel is a must to see.

I love Mackinac, the last time I was there was back in the 80s, while visiting my grandmother in Traverse City, my dad took us to Mackinac and as young as I was back then, I still remember everything and have pictures to show my own children. I plan on taking my husband there one day away from the hussle and bussle of our busy lives. The Grand Hotel is spectacular and love the movie Somewhere in Time. It is truely a beautiful place to visit.

Grew up near Mackinac City and worked there. Going to the Island was always magical and remember many times biking as far as we could go! Swimming at The Grand Hotel and "Tea Time" in the afternoon...the clip clop of the horses and that magical crisp air at my face on the ferry ride over to the island. If you have not visited Mackinac Island, you MUST!

I have always wanted to live on Mackinaw Island. I am having trouble finding out where there are apartments, houses or condos year around to rent. I also am trying to find out about the school system on the island. I work from home by internet and wonder if in the winter there are problems with that if any. If anyone can help answer my questions I would appreciate it. Also, I am a medical transcriptionst and wonder if there are hospital or clinic jobs there. Thanks so much.

Our first trip to Mackinac Island was in the summer of 1979 while they were filming Somewhere in Time (Christoper Reeve and Jane Seymour). It was so special to watch as they filmed, but it was just a short day trip for us on our way to the U.P. We vowed to come back and we did. We've spent many an early May on the island when it's quiet and have stayed in a variety of places downtown. It's a charming place to get away to when life overtakes every part of you. Grab and bike and circle the island, stopping along the way just to watch the ships go by. Ice cream eaten on the boardwalk at sunset is the ultimate treat. We have such warm wonderful memories.

Mackinac is absolutely beautiful, I surprised my girlfriend with a 4 day trip here and she is so excited! It is an easy, fun, inexpensive travel destination! I have been going since I was 12 years old and I don't think I will EVER lose interest!

My wife and I have made it an annual trip to escape to Mackinac Island. It is like being in another world. If you have been you know what I am talking about. If you have not, you must go and stay a couple of nights. My favorite thing is to wake up in the morning, get a cup of coffee and listen to the sound of the horses "clip clop" down the road. We love Mackinac Island!
