Souvenir Shopping On Mackinac

Local bands of Chippewas who arrived in their canoes and single masted Mackinac boats, displayed their porcupine quill boxes, corn-husk dolls, reed baskets and moccasins for the tourists on the shore near the downtown ferry docks.

The 19th century tourist was looking for "Indian curiosities" such as corn husk dolls, baskets, and maple sugar to bring home, but today's shopper chooses from a wide variety of popular gifts from fudge and T shirts to art objects, collectors' items and other high quality merchandise. Dozens of good restaurants and hotels on Mackinac also offer options for any traveler's budget.
