I make my paintings outside in Nature. I go directly to the source and intensely observe and sense the environment.

I paint three to four hours in a session, entirely immersed in the environment and in making a painting. Sometimes I am finished at this point, but most of the time I take the painting to the studio and continue working until it is finished. Sometimes this is a week, sometimes months. At this stage I work only from memory and sense of place - reliving the feeling of the intense communion with nature. The painting often change in the course of this process and take on their own life.

I wish for my paintings to convey the astonishing beauty and miraculous life energy of our Natural world. We humans are as much a part of these nature paintings as any of my trees or hills are. It is my hope that these paintings may help remind us that we are Nature and Nature is us.
